On 9 April 2019, the Governments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Guangdong Province, and the Macao Special Administrative Region will jointly organize a full day Symposium on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area (Bay Area) at the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo.
The Symposium aims to highlight the important position and role of the Bay Area for China’s economic development and opening up, and as an ideal base for Japanese companies to access business opportunities in China. The afternoon session of the Symposium will have a concurrent panel discussions on Innovation and Technology and Smart Health, the two important industries with great business development potential in the Bay Area.
This will be the first overseas Symposium after the release of the Outline Development Plan for the Bay Area to speak on the attractivity and benefits of the Bay Area with joint attendance of leading government officials from all three places. The leading Government representatives include the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the Governor of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, Mr Ma Xingrui, as well as the Director of the Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Mr Mi Jian. Additional speakers from prominent companies with presence in Japan and the Bay Area will share valuable experiences to highlight the advantages, opportunities and importance of collaboration between the two.
The Bay Area is an excellent gateway to business in the region and the Mainland, seize this opportunity to get insights and first-hand feedback on the evolution of the Bay Area and what it has to offer.
Approximately 500 senior Japanese business leaders and executives are expected to attend.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) consists of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region as well as the municipalities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province, covering a total area of 56 000 square kilometres with a combined population of approximately 70 million at the end of 2017. As one of the most open and economically vibrant regions in China, the Greater Bay Area plays a significant strategic role in the overall development of China.
The objectives of the development of the Greater Bay Area are to further deepen cooperation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, fully leverage the composite advantages of the three places, facilitate in-depth integration within the region, and promote coordinated regional economic development, with a view to developing an international first-class bay area ideal for living, working and travelling.
